Gorilla trekking is a popular activity in Rwanda, and the country is home to some of the last remaining mountain gorillas in the world. There are several places in Rwanda where you can go gorilla trekking, but the most popular destination is the Volcanoes National Park.

Volcanoes National Park is located in the northern part of Rwanda and covers an area of over 160 square kilometers. It is home to approximately half of the world’s mountain gorilla population, making it a prime destination for gorilla trekking.

To go gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park, you will need to obtain a permit from the Rwanda Development Board (RDB). The permits are limited, and it is recommended that you book your permit well in advance to avoid disappointment. You can book your permit online or through a tour operator.

Once you have your permit, you will be assigned a group and a guide to take you on your gorilla trekking adventure. The trek can be quite challenging, as it involves hiking through dense forests and steep hills, but the reward of seeing these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat is well worth the effort.

Apart from Volcanoes National Park, there are also other places in Rwanda where you can go gorilla trekking, such as the Nyungwe Forest National Park in the southwest of the country. However, Volcanoes National Park remains the most popular destination for gorilla trekking due to its high concentration of mountain gorillas and its proximity to other attractions like Lake Kivu and the capital city of Kigali.
