These 3 days itinerary will take you to mgahinga which is at the south west tip of Uganda in Kisoro district.it is the smallest national park which is 34km2. however small it is, it offers you the best opportunity to come close to mountain gorillas, golden monkey, vervet monkeys and many different bird species.
Day 1: Pick up from the Airport and transfer to Mgahinga gorilla national park
Pick up from the airport or your hotel and transfer to mgahinga, you will be picked by the safari guide and be briefed about your 3 days mountain gorilla trekking safari to Mgahinga gorilla national park and later start your drive to Mgahinga gorilla National Park. The journey will take you through most beautiful scenic places of a country of ‘a thousand hills’ to ‘the Pearl of Africa’ with several stopovers to enjoy these view as well as take memorial photos. You will cross over to Uganda at the Chanika border and later drive straight to your lodge to have lunch and spend your evening relaxing at the lodge while preparing for your gorilla trekking safari the following day.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and evening boat cruise on Lake Mutanda
Wake up very early in the morning to be served with your cup of coffee, get your packed lunch and meet your guide to drive to the Park Headquarters to join other visitors for briefing about gorilla trekking in mgahinga that is dos and don’ts. Even though Mgahinga gorilla national park is the smallest park with the mountain gorillas compared to the others, it provides the most excellent mountain gorilla experience. The time taken while looking for the mountain gorillas is not known but may be between 2 to 6 hours depending on the location of your allocated gorilla family. Once you meet the endangered mountain gorillas, you will spend with them a maximum of 1 hour while enjoying their adorable behaviors, feeding, grooming their babies and you will be free to take as memorable photos, you have to keep your camera well-charged and on standby not to miss any moment uncaptured. You ranger guide will give more information about the mountain gorillas plus other wildlife species that you will spot during your forest walk while looking out for the endangered mountain gorillas such as several bird species, golden monkeys on a good day and many others. Later after spending an hour with the magical mountain gorillas in Mgahinga gorilla national park, return to the starting point to receive your certificate of gorilla trekking participation, meet your safari guide and drive back to your lodge, freshen yourself and then drive to Lake Mutanda to spend your evening relaxation while on Lake Mutanda taking photos, identifying different bird species. Return to your lodge for dinner and midnight stay.
Day :3 Transfer back to Kigali city and visit Kigali genocide museum
Wake up to have your breakfast, check out of your lodge and start your drive back to Kigali city. On arrival at Kigali city, have lunch and later visit Kigali genocide museum in Rwanda that led to the death of thousands of people mostly the Tutsi people. After the tour to the museum, drive through Kigali city back to the airport to prepare for your departure back to your residence or hotel in Kigali city.
