Embark on a 2-day golden monkey trekking adventure in Rwanda and enjoy the rare opportunity to observe these unique primates in their natural habitat at Volcanoes National Park. During this tour, you’ll spend an hour in the jungle with the golden monkeys, creating unforgettable memories.

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

On the first day, your guide will pick you up from your preferred location in Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda. You’ll have the option to visit some of the city’s attractions, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial grounds and local markets, before heading to Volcanoes National Park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. The journey to the booked lodge will take approximately 3 to 4 hours.

Day 2: Golden Monkey Trekking in Volcanoes National Park, Departure

On the second day, after breakfast, you’ll attend a briefing at the park offices to learn about the dos and don’ts while in the forest, such as not feeding the animals, littering, or trekking if you have an infectious disease. A park guide ranger will escort you to the jungle to begin your search for the golden monkeys, where you’ll have a chance to encounter gorillas since the same trails are used for gorilla trekking.

Along the way, you may spot different bird species, including crested barber, Kivu ground thrush, palm nut vulture, and strange weaver. Spend an hour in the presence of the golden monkeys, observing their playful behavior and jumping from tree to tree. The overall trekking experience will last between 2 to 4 hours. Afterward, enjoy hot lunch before checking out from your accommodation and transferring back to Kigali city for your flight home, marking the end of your tour. Volcanoes National Park is one of the few destinations in Africa where you can find these rare golden monkeys, making this an experience you won’t want to miss.
